About File Rescue

File Rescue helps people check a problematic work file and save the content that can still be read. These tools are free to use.

What the tools do

• CSV and TSV: check text encoding and column separators, remove selected empty or duplicate rows, and save UTF-8 CSV.
• CSV to XLSX: save all cells as text to preserve leading zeros and long identifiers. This does not repair an existing XLSX file.
• Word DOCX, in the English document tool: extract readable main-body text and save TXT. Tables lose their layout. Formatting, pictures, headers, footers, notes, comments, text boxes and tracked changes are excluded.
• Hangul HWP 5.x and HWPX, in the Korean document tool: detect the actual file format, extract text from readable body sections and save TXT. Unreadable sections are reported and excluded. Original layout and a repaired Hangul document are not produced.

Document extraction is not a complete repair. A successful result does not prove that all original content survived. Password-protected documents, legacy DOC and HWP 3.x files, PDF repair, deleted-file recovery and image restoration are not supported. No missing text is guessed.

How we check the tools

We test normal input, damaged files, unsupported structures, resource limits and downloads using synthetic files. We also compare readable body text and downloads from a small public test corpus, including documents with Hancom or Word authoring evidence. This is not a general recovery success rate. Product guidance is based on the relevant manufacturer's documentation. Support descriptions are updated when behavior changes. These checks cannot guarantee the result for every real document. Protected, distribution-only, DRM, privacy-protected and change-tracked HWP documents are unsupported.
